 Dear Sir/Madam,
I write to you on behalf of the Cambridge University Malaysia &
Singapore Association (CUMSA). Founded in 1948, CUMSA serves to
represent the interests and welfare of Malaysians and Singaporeans in
Cambridge; our society provides a platform for cultural exchange both
within our membership and with the larger University community.
Comprising a mere 12 members at its birth, CUMSA’s founding committee
had illustrious Singaporeans such as former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan
Yew was our first President, and former Chief Justice Yong Pung How,
our first Secretary. Over the years, many generations of Malaysians and
Singaporeans have contributed greatly to the development and success of
the association. Past Presidents have included distinguished
individuals such as Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and
former Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo.
Our association now boasts a membership of close to 300, comprising not
only Malaysians and Singaporeans, but also those of different
nationalities who are interested in Malaysian and Singaporean affairs
and culture. We take pride in the fact that CUMSA is one of the most
active and vibrant student societies in Cambridge, and are proud to say
that the ties between our Malaysian and Singaporean members are no less
strong today than they were in 1948.
As our membership base has grown, so has the number and scale of our
events. CUMSA’s activities now include an annual ball, weekly sports,
career talks, garden parties and traditional Cambridge social events
like formal halls. Numerous graduating seniors have acknowledged the
indelible mark that CUMSA has left on their university experience and
lives. The regular gatherings and spectacular events made their time in
Cambridge much more meaningful and memorable, and also kept them
connected to Malaysia and Singapore despite being halfway around the
world.
All this would not have been possible without the generosity of our
sponsors throughout the years. As the university does not provide
funding for any of our activities, we would greatly appreciate it if
you could support CUMSA by sponsoring our events for 2012. Please
consider the opportunities laid out in this sponsorship booklet to help
our society achieve its goals.
I look forward to your favourable response and wish your organisation all the best in the coming year.
Yours faithfully,

Chuang Xue-En
